My parents where thrilled to see that I had my own bike! My dad couldn’t wait until Sunday to go for a ride.
Sunday morning we all went to Peterson’s to get my dad’s rented bike, a Sportster. The four of us headed route 41, through the everglades to Naples. We had lunch at Joanie’s Crab House and also stopped at the Iron Rhino Saloon, for may parents to see more bikes, listen to some music and feel what being a biker is like.
It was a very hot day, after passing by Marco Island we stopped for a nice cold lemonade in Naples. As it was getting late, we decided to return on I-75.
Around 7pm we stopped at a rest area; when we were leaving my bike didn’t seem to be working fine. So we started checking my bike and saw that the bolts from the rear wheel were completely loose! That was making it hard to move. Fortunately I was at a stop and nothing happened while I was on the highway. Imagine if my rear wheel got loose while riding!! OMG
Of course, once again, we hadn’t hired the towing service for our bikes, either from Geico or AAA. Note: both providers will activate the service 3 days after you get it. We called the road service but as it was so late, they couldn’t help us. A towing company wanted to charge us $400 to take my bike to Miami. We then decided to find out if we could leave my bike there until the next day so as to do. Maybe we could rent a truck with a trailer and bring it back ourselves…
The security guy at the rest area showed us where to leave my bike, I put the lock, the alarm, and the cover everything on it so as to make sure it was “safe” to leave it there.
So, it was 10pm, we were tired, we were 4 and only two bikes. My dad’s bike didn’t have enough room behind to take a passenger so... we had a problem.
My mom did not waste any time and asked a guy at the rest area if he would take her to Miami! I was astonished. The man was going to North Miami and kindly gave me his business card (so as to be more at ease : P) and took my mom home.
The three of us took off and arrived home around 12am. My mom had arrived safe and sound (I called her several times along the road) and was waiting us with a warm plate of spaghetti! Nothing like having your mom cooking at home.
It was a long day, full of adventures and my Dad got his dream of riding a Harley in the US accomplished. We all slept like babies...
Ps: In the first picture you can see my Husband my Dad and me with our new T-shirts. The black ones are from Harley Davidson Argentina and the white one from Daytona Bikeweek ;)
As mom I really enjoyed this new experience as I had never in my life done such a thing, ridding the motor bike makes you really feel free and have a new perspective of site seeing, completly diffrent from sitting comfortably in a car,we had great fun, and my husbands dream came true.
